The Apolgy 51-61
"I have gained this reputation, gentlemen, from nothing more or less tahn a kind of wisdom."
The reason I thought this was interesting was because I think that this is what people just assume of Socrates because of what they hear. They believe that Socrates is a bad person because of what they hear which I think is unfair.

Jigsaw
1- I think that a good topic to talk about would be about the amendment that was passed back in 2004. It stated that we were not allowed to burn the U.S. flag. But this is just telling us that we have no freedom of speech.
2) Explain why it is an important topic. You choose what to write about, but here are some suggestions if you are stuck: How does it impact your constitutional rights? Can it impact your daily life? Does it empower or disempower you as an individual? Does it promote or inhibit public discussion? Does it help or hurt people getting along with one another? (short paragraph)
2-I believe that this is an important topic because it impacts us on so many levels. For one it just reduces our freedom as Americans. I don't believe that it impacts our daily life because i don't think someone is going to want to burn a flag for the fun of it.
3) Write one or two sentences that explain a good point made by the con side and one or two sentences that explain a good point made by the pro side (2-4) sentences total).
3- One good point made by the pro side was that they are breaking the first amendment and they are reducing freedom.

The press in a time of crisis
1)they say that the media is a safeguard of democracy
2)People are being thrown in jail for no reason and they have no right to a fair trial.
2.I also agree with the con side. i thihk that we should not censor the media becuase we need to know as much of the thngs that are going on in the world. How would we even know what is happening around the world. We need the media so that we know what is going on in america.

Opinion Essay
On the radio there are many thoughts that are said and many thoughts are spoken. All over the media there is many things that are said that could offend other people’s feelings. They say things such as racial slurs and other things that are offensive and they say things about a lot of other touchy subjects such as religion. Recently there was another incident about a racial slur that was aired over the radio. A lot of people’s had an opinion over this thing.
My opinion over this thing was that I think that this guy deserved to be fired because of what he did. A lot of people were listening to the radio talk show that day and I believe that they were offended. Nobody wants to hear racial slurs on the radio especially since everyone can hear you. Plus it was coming from a guy who had already done this multiple times and had gotten away with it too. Do any of us really want to keep this guy on the radio so he can say it again and get away with it? I think not.
On the other hand this guy really helped out the company and got it most of its money so he should have at least got like a warning or something like that. He might have said something that shouldn’t have but that’s how the talk how got most of it’s money. But that is just how sometimes it is going to be some things just slip out without you noticing.
But that is just how comedy works sometimes and we can’t fix that.
In conclusion, I agree with both sides of the argument because they both have good arguments. But I am going to go with the side that says that he should be fired because he said racial slur. That is why I agree with one side more than the other. This is my opinion on this topic.

Blog & Discussion Questions
1. Why does the NAACP think Imus should be cansored?
The reason that Imus lost his job was because he crossed the line when he did the racial slur on the radio show. This offended many people and that’s what got him kicked of the air. Also people have been wanting to stop racial slurs and that got on their last nerve.
2. Why does Frank Rich think he should not be censored?
He thinks this because everyone on the media already so why should he have gotten fired from the job. Plus they also said that he was just using free speech to get out what he thought out on the air.
3. What do you think and why?
I think that he should have been fired because he offended everyone who was listening that day. He did racial slurs and that could have hurt many people’s feelings and he could have pissed off a lot of people.
Q) What is your reaction to the ending of the section? What is good and/or bad about the type of society outlined by Socrates?

Commenting Assignment
There was a lot of helpful things in this comment that made me realize what I did wrong. One of the things that I like about this comment was that it told me exactly what I did wrong. It also told me what was good about my comment which was good. This is why I think this is a good comment.
Laura Mitchell's Comment:
I like this comment because it told me some good things about my posts. She also stated some things that everyone could relate to which helped a lot. She also talks about my first sentence and how it made the posting all the better.

Simile of the Cave
A: The reason that the charecters in the cave and Mildred are the same is because they always believe what they are told. They are afraid of figuring out the truth of what is really going on the world. Both of these people are under the control "The Man" or the government because they are afraid of speaking their minds or to go against them. One difference is that the people in the cave actually tried to come out but they were afraid and overwhelemded by what was realy going on. Mildred keeps going on with her life and doesn;t even think.

Illiad Assignment
2) My opinion on Agamemnon before reading this would be that he is a coward and he was very inconsiderate of all off his soldiers. He would never go with them to battle. He would just sit back and watch all of his men die in battle which is really messed up. Even after all of what he did for Achilles in this section it still doesn’t change my mind of him being an inconsiderate leader. The only reason that he is doing this for Achilles is because he knows that without Achilles in this war the Greeks will not have a fighting chance against the Trojans. He is just trying to persuade Achilles to fight with him again. All Agamemnon could provide Achilles is women and material things.
3) Pg. 255 Line 137
A) Agamemnon says “Why look, that man is worth an entire army the fighter Zeus holds dear with all of his heart”. This applies to reason because it is obvious that with Zeus the Trojans would easily kill all of the Greeks. The reason all of that this relates to reason is because Zeus counts as a whole army so with that in mind it is easy to tell that the Trojans will easily win.

The reason I chose this word was because to me this word means that you have gotten rid of everything so for a person not to have nothing might be pretty scary.

The reason that I chose this wrod was because a lot of peopel fear fire because it can destroy anything because of like what happened in the book. This word also means a lot to me because it can do a lot of things and it destroys for the most part. This is what brings the most fear to me and books.

Something I Dread Words
The second descriptive quote that I like from my writing is when I say "it feel`s like baby food which I hate" it is very descriptive because every one should know what baby food feels like.
My final quote that I like from my writing is when I say that "eat as fast as the Flash runs" which describes how fast I can eat when my cereal gets soggy.
"Stubborn" is a word that can pretty much describe anyone these days bacause of how people are these days

"unconcious regeneration" and the reason that I liked from this specific quote was because he described getting energy back when you are asleep in two simple words which was really good.
The quote that I enjoyed from Laura Mitchelle:
I liked the way that you used the word "thrust" because I do the same thing when I go into the water because I can't swim so I have to thrust them wildly
The quote that I enjoyed from Yesenia Guillen:
I couldn't find Yesenia's blog on google reader

Farhenheit 451 pg. 156-End of the Book
"Why is it that Montag just doesn't give up and stop trying to save the books in the world since he is almost dead now."
2.For the Second Quote:
Why I thought that this quote means is that if he manages to save the books and later on in the future and someone asks him he will remeber the time that he saved the books. That is what I think this means.

Fahrenheit 451 pages 136-154
2. One way that Montag has changed from the beggining untill now is that in the beggining of the book he was a regular fireman just burning things. Now in the book he is now a thinker and he knows what he used to do was wrong. That is one way that he has changed throughout the book and how his personality has changed. Now he actually feels bad about what he has done.

Here was My Favorite Work
Wednesday, January 24, 2007
Fahreinheit 91-110
Basically what happened at the living room was that when Montag read a page to ladies while they where doing their Parlor games Montag read a poem. One of the ladies began to cry for some reason and she did not know why. The incident that happened with Captain Beatty earleir in the book came back to haunt him because now they were going to burn Montag's house.
My Quote:
The Quote that I chose was “The room was blazing hot, he was all fire, he was all coldness; they sat in the middle of an empty desert with three chairs and him standing there…”. The reason I chose this quote was because it feels like if I was there and I was experiencing what was happening in this quote. This forces me to use my senses and I can see the blazing fires and I feel them.
F451 pgs 80-91
Why doesn't Montag get rid of the books while he has a chance before he, his family, and his books get burned.
Question B:
The plan that Faber explains to Montag is to put books in the other firemen's houses and frame them for having books at their house. If this plan were to work the firemen's houses would be burned to ashes. One reason that their plan won't work is because there is not enough followers that would help this plan come to life and there is only a little bit of books that are left in the world. Another reason is because it would be to hard to plant the books where they need to be so this would be another challenge that they would encounter.

Something I am looking Foward To
Monday, January 22, 2007
Fahrenheit 451 pages 68-80
One question that I have is that why does Mildred hate books so much and why is she scared of Montag reading them. Does she fear Montag getting to know about people that never existed.
B. How will books get us out of "the cave?" What is the cave and how will books get us out of it?
A: I think that basically what the cave reffers to is the state of not being aware of what is happening in the world and not knowing what happened then. I think that the books have the key to getting out of the cave because they have information that the firemen are trying to get rid of by burning the books. The books could tell the people what happened when the book was being written in their own time. The firemen basically try to keep the people in "the cave".

Fahrenheit 451 pages 40-68
Captain Beatty tells Montag that firemen are the “happiness boys” and that they are custodians of “our piece of mind.” Why does he say this? Be sure to include the problem with minority opinions, individual thought, and the historical conditions that made this possible. Use quotations and other evidence from the text in your response.
A:
The reason that captain Beatty says that the firemen are the happiness boys is because they are the ones that clear up the minds of other people. He believes that by erasing someone's books he would make people happy and also make peace. He thinks that he is making scientists happy because books just disprove someone's ideas or calling their thoughts stupid. One other thing that he says is that he also gets rid of books that have thoughts that are against minorities so he also gets rid of those kinds of books. One thing that he says is that books say nothing so there is nopoint in keeping them. That is what he said in the book. Another thing that he told Montag after he found out that Montag found the book was that if he didn't get rid of the book in twenty four hours he would burn the book himself so that means that Beatty doesn't know what books have in them. Beatty also believes that it is better not to be educated and just be go on and not know anything because you may not believe it

Fahrenheit 451 pages 21 to 40
2) There is many ways that the people in the book are like the people today and different. One way that they are different is that people today don't spend time to smell flowers and do childish things. People now a days rely on technology for entertainment and Claresse shows that you don't need technology to have fun. Now we don't even wonder about anything such as what is on other people's minds and in the book they spend time talking and ask random questions. Now all people talk about is new gadgets and cars and other material things. Some things that we have in common is do stuff for fun and then sometimes we work. Another thing that we have in common is want and wish for things to happen.

Fahrenheit 451 pages 3 to 21
A: One thing that i found confusing about this part of the book was the kind of writing that they used the descriptive metaphors. An example of this would be when they would use a certain metaphor and I didn't see how they had anything in common.
Q:Why is there so many metaphors that don't have anything in common such as in the beginning of the book.
1) Even before Montag and his wife Mildred talk to one another we know that they are alienated (distant) from one another. How does the author convey this?
A: I think that the author conveyed this by saying that the wife had been waiting for a long time and that showed a bad relationship.
