Farhenheit 451 pg. 156-End of the Book

1.My question
"Why is it that Montag just doesn't give up and stop trying to save the books in the world since he is almost dead now."

2.For the Second Quote:
Why I thought that this quote means is that if he manages to save the books and later on in the future and someone asks him he will remeber the time that he saved the books. That is what I think this means.

What kind of rebel just gives up? What would our world be if Malcolm X and Martin Luther King just gave up? Montag is extremely determined to make a change, and giving up so you can go back to an even more miserable life (though it would be short lived due to bombing)
